Intro to Soft Pastel Painting for the absolute beginner in pastel

We will discuss materials (papers and boards, pastel brands and types), style (abstract, realism), basic techniques (how to use the pastel stick) and basic process (how to create a simple painting). Each participant will complete a small technique sample work using what we learned. Note this will NOT be a completed painting, just a sampler for future reference. The class atmosphere will be one of comfortable supportive learning and experimentation.

SOFT PASTEL LANDSCAPE PAINTING WORKSHOP

Prerequisite: Intro to Soft Pastel Painting or some soft pastel experience
Materials Fee: $20 payable to instructor (or bring all your own supplies including a variety of pastels and sanded paper)
Description:
This is a one-day stand-alone workshop. We will complete a Colorado landscape painting together. Instructor will teach through demo, discussion, examples and personal assistance. We will cover all the basics including perspective, value, color harmony, composition and interesting mark making. This will be a supportive and positive class emphasizing using your own voice to express your feelings and relax and enjoy the art of creating something beautiful.
Please bring a lunch and we will take a short break to eat and enjoy each other’s company.

WET FELTED BEAD & ROPE JEWELRY

Description: The class atmosphere will be fun, comfortable, supportive, and of learning and experimentation. Students will learn various techniques for making felted beads and ropes including: rolled and sliced, balls and wrapped and will also learn how to incorporate these items into various forms of jewelry. Each student will complete various types of beads and ropes as well as one pair of earrings or a necklace.

WHIMSICAL INK CREATIONS

Description: We will enhance whimsical creatures that appear on our paper and can be used to create unique handmade cards or frame and hang on the wall. Mine tend to resemble birds and insects, but anything can appear. The process is fun and simple and will awaken your inner child and creativity. Once you start, it’s difficult to stop!

ACRYLIC POURING

Description:
The class atmosphere will be fun, comfortable, supportive, learning and experimentation. Acrylic pouring is fun and easy. The results are random and gorgeous. You will have to pick up your finished painting the next day (or later if you need to) in order for them to dry laying flat. You will have a choice of painting a basic tray, vase, canvas or coasters.

Beyond Acrylic Pouring (Fluid Art)

Description: We will be going a bit beyond the basics in this class to learn to control our pours and use various tools such as hair dryer and airbrush machine (just air) or cans of air to obtain a more predictable (?) outcome. This is a great class for those who have taken the pouring class and want to further explore fluid acrylics and is also fine to take if you are new to fluid acrylics. Teacher will discuss color theory, demo and explain various techniques and provide plenty of time to create 1 or 2 finished paintings. You will have to pick up your finished painting the next day (or later if you need to) in order for them to dry laying flat. You will have a choice of a few different sizes of canvas. The class atmosphere will be one of fun, comfortable, supportive, learning and experimentation.
